EITS Data Management
What is the Service?
The AHE Data Storage Service is the management of data storage devices that are hosted within the EITS data center(s), including application, process data, and backups storage devices. In addition to providing the basic administration and management of data storage devices, primary functions of the Data Storage Service include backup and recovery capability and archival services. Data storage service is managed within the EITS AHE umbrella of comprehensive administration, maintenance, and high level security management.
Routine data storage includes full and partial data backups consistent with time and accuracy standards established by customer and AHE agreement.
The EITS Database Management Service offers a full range of database management technical and administrative expertise. The service includes both system database administration which supports maintenance of the DBMS within the EITS AHE computing environment; and application database management which supports the administration of the database associated with a specific application(s). EITS provides technical expertise for Oracle DBMS and can provide support for several platforms including SUN, Unix, and MVS.

Data Storage: Data Archival Service (optional)
Data archival is an optional data storage service to maintain and manage archives of systems and data after they are no longer required for active access. A data archive is not a copy of data, it is the storage of the original data collection. Data archives include meta data such as the date and time at which the data was frozen and documented as an archive.
How do we charge?
Data Storage Costs are based on the amount and types of storage media, the level of support, and any extra or custom storage requirements, such as data archival. The costs can vary month to month based on actual cost of services utilized, therefore monthly bills reflect prior month charges.
Data Storage media selection or requirements are an important factor in the cost of data storage. Data storage media includes: 1) Tape Storage; 2) NAS (Network Attached Storage): SAN (Storage Area Network):
In addition, data management requirements vary and may impact the costs of data storage. Such factors include: Importance (critical nature) of the data to the organization; Level of Performance (high or standard); Dynamic or Static content, and Level of acceptable risk.
Other charges may be assessed to restore systems and data or to support disaster recovery. Archival and access to archived data stores is an optional service available at an additional charge. Higher costs are associated with non-standard maintenance or specific management services provided.
Database Management fees are based on the specific equipment, hardware, software, and database management requirements. A formula is used to calculate standard costs for standard configurations and software (including DBMS). Custom services will be billed on a time and materials basis. Database Management is billed monthly as part of the AHE charges
How can you limit costs?
- Select the appropriate storage media for organizational needs; trade off speed and reliability against cost.
- Adhere to record retention schedules and maintain only files that are necessary
- Move data to cheaper media or archive as appropriate.
