Project Management Essentials (PME) To exempt from the Project Management Essentials (PME) course, the candidate must be a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or satisfy the OCIO Project Management Assessment with a score of at least 70 percent. If a candidate does not meet the minimum score but has significant project management experience, a supervisor may write a letter endorsing the individual’s project management experience and exempting the individual from the PME course.

Register and apply to Federal Acquisition Institute to take "CON 101". The course is offered through the Defense Acquisition University (DAU). When registering at Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI), there is an icon for "Students wishing to enroll in CON 101" which is a link to DAU Alternatively, you can go directly to http://www.dau.mil/, select the e-Learning link on the top of the screen, and then select "Apply for All Courses Here". A new web page appears. Then scroll down and follow the enrollment directions for your applicable employment status (e.g. Federal employees working for non-DOD federal agencies). Similar procedures apply when registering for FAI’s "COR Mentor Program".
Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Earned Value Management Courses offered from an accredited university or training provider such as the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) may provide an exemption to the Earned Value courses required for Level 1 Qualification. To determine if prior course work meets requirements for exemption, the course information should be emailed to ITPMCONTACTS@hq.doe.gov for analysis.

Project Management and Portfolio Analysis
The objective of this course is to allow the participants to have the full Project Management experience through an automated simulation. The simulation case study and the actual projects presented by the participants will be worked through the simulation exercises so that the participant can have hands on experience of all aspects of program management for interrelated projects. The simulation covers a range of high-level Portfolio Analysis issues. The simulation focuses on collaboration skills, communication skills and challenges of vying for and defending requirements for resources. No alternative course has been identified at this time.
Federal Budget Process
Provides students with an overview of the major phases and participation in the federal budget process. Students will learn how the federal budget process can impact the role of the Project Director and how to best deal with the impacts through contingency planning. Students will gain an understanding, up to macro level, of how the budget is formulated and recognize the impact of the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) and major phases and timing in the budget process. The target audience is Level 2 Federal Project Directors.
