Content Management
and Search capability
Content management (CM) is an automated process that supports the maintenance of information on websites. It separates content from layout allowing you to focus on the message without having to worry about graphics and other layout components.
CM is a collaborative process. It often consists of the following basic roles and responsibilities:
- Content author - responsible for creating and editing content.
- Reviewer (Editor) - responsible for tuning the content message and the style of delivery, including adherence to established formats.
- Approver (Publisher) - responsible for releasing the content for publication to the public web site.
The Administrator is responsible for managing access permissions to folders and files, usually accomplished by assigning access rights to user groups or roles. Admins may also assist and support users in other various ways.
A Content Management System (CMS) provides the ability to assign roles and responsibilities to different instances of content categories or types, define workflow tasks and provides the ability to track and manage multiple versions of a single instance of content.
The OCIO is currently in the process of implementing an enterprise solution to managing web site content. A recent purchase of RedDot Content Management Software has provided the capability to establish a single look and feel for Departmental websites, implement web standards, and apply industry best practices.
